Birds on a wire....

Hi Everyone!  Happy Wednesday!  I want to share with you a little art project I completed yesterday for my bedroom.  I was sitting at a stop sign yesterday on my way to pick up my parents mail when I looked up and saw birds sitting on the electrical lines.  And it got me thinking of something I could make.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures along the way.   I found three canvases in my stash.  So I decided to make some art for my bedroom.
I prepped the canvases.  Then painted them sky blue making them lighter at the top and darker at the bottom of the canvas.  Once that dried, I hand painted the wire and the birds in black.
My bedroom walls are painted blue from below the picture rail and white from the rail up and onto the ceiling.  So these will fit right in.
It's simple.  But I like them.
And they fit right into my nature and silhouette themes that I've had recently.  I'll get off this kick eventually.  Thanks for stopping by.

It's in the numbers....

Hi Everyone!  I love numbers.  And I love all the projects out there that involve numbers.  I saw these numbers for sale and loved them, but I didn't love their price tag.
Antique Farm House $10/number
Using these signs as my inspiration....I made these.
They are smaller than my inspiration ones.  But they are a nice versatile size.
I made these out of a long piece of scrap luan that I cut down to size.  I sanded the blocks and painted them black with a top coat of white.  I took the sander to them so the black would come through.  Then I painted on the numbers and the words.
And instead of making 10, 11 and 12....I made the number zero instead.
I was going to sand the black off some, but decided against it.
The inspiration signs are made of metal and mine are made of wood.  But I'm happy with the way they turned out.  They are small enough that I can attach them to baskets with some twine.  I just have to drill a hole in them.  Or I can hang them all together on one wall for a great statement piece.  Or I can spread the numbers around the house in different vignettes.  Now I get to play with them a bit.  Do you like numbers?  How would you use them?  Thanks for stopping by.

Tomorrow....

Hi Everyone!  Sorry I don't have any exciting projects to show you today.  But I want to share with you that tomorrow is my birthday.  I will be 40 years old.  As will my very good friend Jami.
I met Jami back in 1999.  We had both been working for the same mid size telecom company in Cedar Rapids but in different offices.  And then we both were transferred to the Denver office.  I had been there for about a month when Jami came in to work.  I was showing her the ropes for our job and just chit chatting away.  I asked her when her birthday was and she said February 24th.  And my mouth dropped open.  So of course I had to ask the year.  And then I told her that was my birthday.  She was born in the wee hours of the morning and I was born in the afternoon about 12 hours later.  We were both born in Iowa but on opposite sides of the state.  She is the first person that I've met that has the same birthday.  And we've been friends ever since.

So happy birthday to us!  And since it's just me...and my parents are not here to help me celebrate...I decided to get myself some flowers to celebrate.  I picked these up at the local floral shop for about $13.00.

I love daisies.  I think they are just so cheerful and happy looking.  I love the bright green and yellow.
Normally, I don't get flowers for my birthday.  And normally I don't buy them for myself either.  But I thought it was a good way to celebrate the big 4-0.  Thanks for stopping by.

Unique flowers...

Hi Everyone!  Happy Wednesday!  I hope your week is going well.  I want to show you the idea I had on Saturday while I was at work.  In case you didn't know, I am the bookkeeper at the local plumbing shop.  I was helping a customer find some brass fittings in the back room when I looked in a box that contained used/vintage handles.  There was such a colorful array of handles.  And it struck me that they looked like flowers.

So I pulled out a few of them and bought them.  I got a great employee discount on them.  I got all seven for a few bucks.  So I cleaned them up and got to working on how to make them into actual flowers.
I love the colors and the fact that they are banged up and scratched.
It was really easy to make.  And I had everything on hand.  Sorry I don't have step by step pictures.  I got started working on them and forgot to pick up the camera.
I took a small (diameter) wooden dowel and used a black pony bead to either fit up inside the handle or one on the top and one on the bottom and sandwiched the handle in the place.  I did have to shave the dowel down a bit to fit inside the bead.  Then I glued them in place using super glue.
Then a found these leaf shaped wooden cutouts in my stash, drilled a hole in them and fed a small wire through two or three of the wooden cutouts and twisted the wire around the dowel from the top to the bottom of the dowel.
And then I mixed up some green paint and painted the stem, leaves and the wire.
And there you go.  Easy as can be.
And these flowers won't wilt or die.
And I love how industrial they look.
Plus, not everyone will have them.  I'm going to put them on a shelf in my living room so I can enjoy them every day.  I hope you are having a good week.  Big things are going to be happening around here this weekend.  Be sure to check back.  Thanks for stopping by.
