Antique drawer repurposed...

Hi Everyone!  I have a collection of antique drawers that I got at work, you can check out the story behind the drawers here.  I have three different sizes and today I thought I'd do something with one of the small ones.
I found the one in the group that I didn't have to do that much to...
...and I decided to turn it into a shelf.  I added two dividers in the drawer so that it could be hung either horizontally or vertically.
I like that you can still see the hardware.
I love the old bead board.  I spent about an hour cleaning it up.  There were years and years of plumbing dirt and grease in that drawer.  And then I spent a while sanding it smooth.
I stained the two divider boards before I glued and nailed them in.  Then I painted the whole thing in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White before distressing the whole thing.  The only thing left to do was add hangers to the back and put it on the wall.
I like it.  I have 7 other drawers this size and plans for several of them.  What would you do with them?  Now I'm heading out to the shop to work on a desk I'm building for a friend.  What are your plans for today?  Whatever you do, enjoy it!  Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Of course you are spending your day building something :).

This drawer turned shelf turned out great. You certainly think outside of the box...or in this case, drawer :)

  4. Wonderful! Love it. I found an old drawer on the curb with trash when we lived in Budapest, Hungary. I picked it up, cleaned it up and used it for a magazine holder in my living room. It had a wonderful brass pull on it. Wish I could have brought it when I returned to the States, but left it for another to enjoy.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful drawer decor.

  5. Love how your drawer turned out, so useable and attractive. I love shelving that's a tad rustic and especially different. You made it look great, like the bead board on back.
We inherited a couple older drawers but they're bigger. Was thinking of just cutting them down the middle to make two of one. Guess I'll have to ponder on it more.
It was super hot today (west of Grand Junction, CO). I went out to sand on a table and shelf I bought at thrift store but it was so darned hot I got kinda puny feeling and had to come in. Don't think I'll be going out there on back deck to do things at that time of day again. Will wait til about 6 or so and do what I need to do on front porch. it's always shady and cooler in afternoon.
Our cat loves to nap on the front porch in afternoon on the wicker chairs (which need a paint job something awful along with the front porch). Those jobs are going to have to wait for Fall.
Don't work too hard out in heat.Found you from Make the scene Monday
Hope you have a great summer.

  8. Great job on your shelf. Old drawers are so useful for lots of things! Even if a dresser is no longer useable, save those drawers! :-) Found you at Make the Scene Monday.

  9. You were so lucky to come across all these drawers. I love what you did with this one and it gives potential buyers the choice of how to use it.

  10. Ok, I think this has to be one of my favourite makeovers, love this shelf so much. Btw, you don't have to answer all my comments, I feel bad that I haven't been around. Work has been incredibly tiring so I've been taking it easy at night, and not blogging much, but I hate missing out on what you've all been doing !

  12. Hey, I'm a new follower on GFC from the weekend blog hop. Right now I can't really think of anything I'll be putting in it, but if I had one, with all the clutter in my apartment, I'm sure I'll have something in it in a week! Lol.

I'd love it if you can follow me back :)

  13. Great idea! They look adorable. I have a few drawers I have been hoarding... I mean saving, in my garage. I was thinking of hanging them on the wall as display shelves and now I can see that it is actually a really good idea!!
