Pedestal Table...

Hi Everyone!  I hope you had a great 4th of July!  Today I want to show you the pedestal table I built this past Saturday.  I painted it Wednesday night and finished it up yesterday.  It was a perfect holiday so I took it outside to photograph it.
I'll walk you through how I made this pedestal table using an antique table leg that my Aunt Barb gave me last year.
I've been meaning to turn this into a table for a while now.  At first I thought I was going to need to remove the bolt but I decided to use it to my advantage.
I cut a board a little bigger than the top of the leg and drilled a hole in it the same size as the bolt.  I turned the board down the bolt until it was level on the leg and then secured it in place with glue and screws.
I did the same with a slightly larger board that will support the table top.  I also had to use two boards in order to use up all the space on the bolt.  Once it was in place I attached it with glue and screws to the previously added board.  And as you can see there is a little bit of the bolt still sticking up above the board.
I found the center of the underside of the top and drilled a hole into it just deep enough for the bolt to fit in. And I attached it using screws through the other boards.
The bottom of the leg has this metal plate that a caster used to fit in.  I thought about removing it but decided to just work with it too.
Using a spade bit I drilled out a hole just large enough for the metal plate to fit in and found a carriage bolt that would fit into the plate.
And then I put it all together and attached it with additional screws from the underside.....

...I also added little feet so that it sits flat and stable because the carriage bolt sticks out a bit...I could have tried to sink it in, but since I had to drill out the wood for the metal plate to sit on the other side I didn't want to remove too much wood and compromise the stability.  Plus the feet will help keep it from scuffing up the floor.
Then I painted the raw, new wood in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen to match the antique table leg.  Once that dried, I painted it Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.
I sanded it to reveal the layers below and give it an instant age look, allowing the antique wood, the French Linen and some raw wood to show through.
Then I waxed it with Clear Wax and buffed it.
It's the perfect size to put at the end of a couch or chair.  It even looks good next to this little chair.  And I like the fluted details of the leg.  I think it gives it a very interesting look.  Thanks for stopping by!
