Dresser remade....

Hi Everyone!  This weekend I worked on getting things ready for the fair in a couple weeks and a couple of custom orders for art pieces.  One of the things I worked on was the dresser I picked up on Wednesday from my friend Lynett.
On Saturday I stripped the top and drawer fronts using Citristrip and then I sanded it all over.  I painted the body of the dresser in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey.  My absolutely favorite color!  (Sorry, no in process pictures.)  Then I stained the top and the drawer fronts with my custom mix of stain.  I waxed and buffed the top.

On Sunday, I started working on the decorative painting....and this is how it turned out...
I used cream paint for the vines and flowers and hand painted them on....(it looks so much better in person than it does in these pictures).
I did a little distressing of the paint...
...and used a little of the stain on the carving...
...I painted the sides of the drawers in ASCP Aubusson Blue...
...and added knobs from Hobby Lobby that I asked my mom to pick up for me....(thanks Mom!)....

I took the knobs into consideration when I painted the vines and flowers so that the knobs became a part of the vines.
I still need to wax the drawer fronts, but I'm waiting a few days to do that.  I really want the paint to set up before rubbing something across them.  I really like how this turned out.  I will be taking this to the Clarinda Craft Carnival on October 19th.  And if it doesn't sell, then it will be available at my Studio Open House on November 9th and 10th.  What did you work on this weekend?  Thanks for stopping by.

  3. beautiful Holly! I love this piece. I would call it a chest of drawers :)
You did a wonderful job painting it. So envious of your talented hands!

I didn't do anything over the weekend... we had record amounts of rain. Over 6 inches, local flooding.
My garage flooded, so I spent all day today clearing out (and drying out) my lumber.
I built a new storage bench. I would love to know how you corral your scraps! I will be working on small piece storage tomorrow.

  13. How beautiful! Great job on the hand-painted vines. I like the idea of painting the sides of the drawers for some eye candy when they are pulled out. My husband can never fully close his drawers so I'm always seeing the ugly original color of the wood.
