Recent finds...

Hi Everyone!  I am out working in the shop today trying to get ready for the first fall craft fair.  But I need a break and wanted to show you a couple of recent finds.  My mom picked up a couple of frames (thanks Mom!) and I picked up the other three last weekend.

 I don't know exactly what I've going to do with the two standing up but I have an idea that the large one will be turned into one of the wire/clip message/picture frames that I make for the fairs that always sell quickly (I need to come up with a better name for them).

The top two of these frames are a matching pair.  I got these three for $2.50.  A little more than what I would normally pay for frames this size but they are solid wood and in great shape...and they match.  I needed two matching ones this size so I was happy to pay the $2.00 to get them both.  I have already used them and I'll show you what I did with them later this week.  But now I need to get back out to the shop.  Thanks for stopping by.

An old window remake....

Hi Everyone!  I hope you are having a great weekend.  The weather has been great the last few days...thank goodness.  So I've been able to be out in the shop working.  I have almost a month to go before my first craft fair so I've been busy trying to get ready for it.  I've also had several custom orders which I'll show you later this week.  Tonight I thought I'd show you what I did to one of the windows that my Uncle Bill rescued from a dumpster for me which you can see here.

 Here are two of the four windows that Uncle Bill gave me.  I took the one on the left and spent about and hour and a half cleaning it up on both sides.  It was dirty and grimy and gross.  But I got it clean.

 I taped the edge off with frog tape.  And then sprayed the back with Krylon's Looking Glass Mirror-Like Paint.  I just love this stuff but it's expensive for a 6oz can.

 Once it dried, I painted over it with black flat spray paint to protect the mirror finish.

 I applied some dark wax to the front of the window/mirror to give it an aged look.

 I thought the window/mirror needed something so I made this wreath to hang on it out of a pip berry garland that I had on hand.  It has barn red hearts and rusty keys attached to the garland.  The tag says love is the key.  I thought it was the right size for the window/mirror.

And here it is hanging on the front of the window now turned into a mirror.  I need to hang it on the wall in my studio but I didn't want to wait to show it to you.  I like how it turned out.  What would you have done with this window?  I have three more of them.....

The weather tomorrow is suppose to be good and I have a long list of things to accomplish out in the shop.  Thanks for stopping by.

It's feature time....

Hi Everyone!  It's time for this weeks features.  I want to start by saying thank you to everyone that linked up to our party.  I can't believe all the link ups we had this week.  I had a great time visiting and meeting each one of you. 

Now the hard part......picking out my favorites.  You guys make it very difficult each week for me to pick my favorites because there are just so many wonderful projects linked up.  I normally pick five to feature but I couldn't narrow it down so I ended up with six picks this week.  Now on with the show...

 I love this table.  Mimi did a great job up-cycling an old base into a gorgeous table.  I so want to make one of these.

I have always loved the look of these growth charts.  I thought of making one of these to hang on the wall in my studio, just for decoration since I have no one to measure the growth of.  I love how it turned out and looks old.

I adore things made from natural substances.  I've never seen Paulownia Seeds Pods before and I just love what Joann did with them.  Isn't it gorgeous.

Pondering thoughts....

Hi Everyone!  I hope your week is going well.  I'm trying to put the finishing touches on my studio so I can reveal it to you next week...hopefully!  And I've been busy working on four custom orders which I will share with you when I'm finished.  Since I don't have any new projects to share I thought I'd share with you something I've been thinking about lately...

How do you refer to yourself?  What I mean by that is do you call yourself an artist, a designer, a crafter, a woodworker....?  Several people have referred to me as an artist and I've been getting offers for designers.  I have not now nor have I ever referred to myself as an artist although I dabble in art....I don't call myself a designer although I do "design" the furniture I build (I don't follow plans made by someone else)....I don't call myself a woodworker although I do a lot of work with wood....I don't call myself a crafter (I actually don't like that term) because around here it has a negative connotation.

I do refer to myself as a creative person...a small business owner...a bookkeeper (my day job)...a blogger...not to mention daughter, sister, friend.  I was thinking about this as I set up my website and Google +1 when it came to filling in the About Me part.  I don't know about you, but I find that to be the most difficult thing to write.  How do you quickly sum up in as few words as possible who you are and what you're about?

I generally stumble around, write four or five drafts of what I'd like to say and then edit, edit and edit.  And then second guess myself...did I say too much...not enough...does it seem interesting enough to get someone's attention...until I just give up and go with it...as is for a few weeks until I go back and edit it all over again.  Why is it that it's so difficult to sum up who you are?  Or am I the only one that feels this way?  How do you decide what to say?  I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject.  Now I really must get back to work so I have something more interesting to share with you.  Thanks for stopping by!
