A lot of painting going on....

Hi Everyone!  I had a helper today.  My mom came out to the farm to help me paint some items.
The first thing she did was paint four boards to match the walls in the front room....
...once they were dry, she helped me hang them....
...so now there are picture rails to hang items from without filling the walls with nail holes.
Then she painted the base coat of the window shutters...I still have to do the top treatment to give them an aged look.
Then I put her to work painting the base coat of some signs I'm making...and painting frames...
...four different ones...now I know it looks like I wasn't doing anything while my mom painted, but I was busy in the shop cutting the boards for the signs, hanging the picture rails, taking the shutters down, and taking apart the frames so they could be painted.
I also put the finishing touches on this set of dandelion paintings and I stained the long board for a custom sign that a client ordered.
I also painted the final code of red on this sign.  Now I just need to finish the signs, rehang the shutters and put away all the mess.  Thanks for all your help Mom!  And tomorrow they should be starting on my roof.  So what did you today?  Thanks for stopping by.

Welcome signs...

Hello Everyone!  Since I didn't get much done this past weekend, I thought I'd share with you a couple of the welcome signs I've made.  This Welcome sign is made on old barn wood.  I barely sanded the board and added polyurethane to it.  Then I decided to turn it into a birdhouse sign.  I cut the top and added the roof and added a piece to the base so it stands.  Next I painted the letters and attached them with small nails.  Then I drilled the hole at the top and in the letter O and glued the nesting in.
These are welcome signs that I painted and then painted the flower shapes on the background to give them a unique twist.  Then I added the letters .  I really like the green background with the blue letters.  But of course the white one with red letters goes better with my front entry way, so that's where that hangs.  The others will be going to the shop for sale.
Thanks for stopping by.

*Sorry this didn't post on Tuesday.  I accidentally left it in drafts instead of publishing it.  DUH Holly!*

Signs...

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start. I thought I'd share a couple of signs I've made for clients. The first is a sign that is 36" long to go under a picture of my clients great-grandchildren! It turned out nice. I still think the heart should have been red, but that's not what she ordered.

This sign was requested by one of the guys I work with. He had been asking me for months to make him a sign on barn board that would go over an entryway so it had to be long. I thought he was kidding or just giving me a hard time, so I never made it for him. Then his wife said he really did want that sign so I made it for her to give to him.
I really liked how it turned out. I found a great barn board in my stash, lightly sanded it so as not to remove all the patina but yet made it just smooth enough to be able to paint on. Then painted the letters on in an unconventional manner, and lightly sanded the letters so they looked like they had been there for a while. Then sealed it, front and back.
My co-worker was surprised to receive it since he thought I was never going to make it for him. Well, I must get back out to the shop since today is my day off and I have plenty to work on. And I can't wait to show you. Thanks for stopping by.

Signs...

I love signs. I love making signs. I like taking scraps of wood from other projects and turning them into signs. This welcome sign is on a scrap of wood left over from cutting a headboard apart for a bench. There was a small hole in the middle where a spindle was, but it has been filled and painted, then sanded and antiqued. I hand paint all the words on my signs.
This is another scrap piece left from the bottom of the headboard where the spindle was anchored on the headboard.
I'm not sure the previous life of this scrap piece, but now it has purpose as a sign. And I really like this saying. I try to live each day with purpose because you just never know.
This is a fun sign. The scrap piece was also from a soild back headboard. I had the rusty beehive and thought it needed something to go with it so I painted this on the board and then sanded it. I think it might need a little more sanding. But I thought they looked good together. I put a nest with eggs inside the bee hive for a little added color.
I think this is my favorite sign right now. I love the saying. I heard it on the movie Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and knew I just had to turn it into a sign. The board is from a house that was built in the 1880's that was torn down and the trim work was salvaged. It has a lot of character.

Do you like signs? What is your favorite? Well, thanks for stopping by.
