A chair remade...

Hi Everyone!  I thought I'd show you the chair I redid to go with the table I showed you yesterday.  And this time I do have a before picture.  It's a really sturdy, nothing special chair.

 I painted it in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.  And then I sanded it but I didn't wax it.

 I still have to wax it, but I'm thinking of leaving it as is and not waxing it so it will continue to age.

 I tried to sand it where it would have naturally worn...front chair legs and stretchers would really take a beating....at least they do with me.

 It's the perfect chair to sit at this table....

 ...and it's pretty comfortable too....

I  have it sitting on my front porch greeting you as you walk into the studio and I really like it there...for now.  Thanks for stopping by.

Recycled cornice board....

Hi Everyone!  I hope your week is off to a great start.  It was hot and windy all day yesterday so no shop work.  It was too windy to open the big doors and too hot in the shop to be out there.  Instead I worked on some things inside the house.  And then a storm came through and it rained!  Thank goodness!  We needed the rain.  It has been so dry and windy here.

I was looking through my drafts the other day and found several that didn't get posted so after some editing...here's one of those posts.  Do you remember I showed you this cornice molding from a house from the 1880's era that I was given?  I decided to turn it into something pretty and useful.

It needed a bit of repair.  Whoever removed it from above that door was not gentle about it.  After repairing some holes, I decided the top ledge needed to be a bit wider.

 I cut a 1x4" board down to the right length and width.  I miter cut the ends to match the angle on the top of it and attached it to the cornice.  This way it can be used as a small ledge...adding to it's usefulness. 

 Then I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.

 Don't you just love the details on it?  I sure do.

 I cut down the rails from an old broken chair to create pegs.  I painted them to match and attached them with glue and screws from the back side.  I took it to the craft fair back at the end of April, but it came home with me.  So I've added it to my stash of inventory for the next craft fair.  I'm hoping I will find it a new home soon because it's just too lovely to be in storage and I have no wall space for it.  Thanks for stopping by.

Antique Oak Chair....

Hi Everyone!  Happy Friday!  I hope you all have a great weekend planned.  I will be spending every free moment in the shop from now until Labor Day getting ready for the first of two craft fairs.  One is on Labor Day and then I have a weekend to remake a few small things and then the next weekend is the second one.  So lots to do. 

Do you remember the antique oak chair that my aunt Barb gave me for free?  Well, I finally did something with it.

 It needed a little structural and cosmetic work on the top rails.  So I put some Kwik wood (love that stuff) on the rails where the surface cracks were and then I used wood from the broken legs of the antique ironing board that my aunt Barb gave me that used to be my grandmothers to reinforce the top rails.

 Then I painted it with Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint in Old White.

And waxed it with clear wax and distressed it.

 I used jute webbing with a red stripe to make the seat.  And handpainted the Welcome Friends on the top of the seat back in black paint.

 And then had a photo session with the chair.  I had to take about 20 pictures of the chair because the dogs kept trying to get into the pictures.  Not the look I was going for.

And there you have it.  I'm pleased with how it turned out.  And I loved not having to use primer so score another one for Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint!  It is worth the extra dough.  I'm working on another chair that my aunt Nancy gave me about 5 years ago that has been sitting in my storage room...waiting along with a set of four others.  Well, thanks for stopping by!

Free stuff...

Hi Everyone!  Don't you just get giddy when hear those two little words, free stuff!  I know I do.  I am the lucky recipient of some great free stuff!  And how lucky am I.  It was like Christmas!  My aunt came up this past weekend and brought me a load of some really great stuff.  I'm not able to get to garage sales (I work on Saturdays) and we don't have any Goodwill stores around here and I hardly ever make it to the city to go shopping (plus I'm not really a shopper unless we're talking power tools) so I don't normally have a chance for show and tell time.  But today I do.

 My aunt picked up the headboards in Arizona.  She found them curbside while she was on her daily walk, picked them up and carried them back to her house.  She was so excited to find them and I am so excited to finally get them.  And to my surprise, they match the full size headboard I just used on the last bench I made for Wenstrand Farms.

I've always wanted an antique ironing board but I don't think I ever told my aunt that, but look what I got.  One of the legs is broken, but I don't care.  Now, what to do with it?.....

 And of course the antique chair.  It's really sturdy but of course it needs a new seat and some paint? maybe?

And look at these babies.  I actually picked these up, curbside in my parents neighborhood.  One of the really old, big Victorian homes got new windows and I got these.  I have so many ideas....there are a couple more but they were on the other side of the shop and I forgot to take pictures of them.  So what would you do with my free stuff?
