Free Stuff....

Hi Everyone!  I'm finally caught up on my online orders so now I've started working on orders that I got right before and during the open house.  But today I thought I'd share the free stuff I got this weekend.  My relatives own the Sanitation Department in town and they are pulling things that I might be able to use.  And Saturday was my lucky day.
Look at what they rescued from the garbage...can you believe someone threw it away....
We were calling it a dresser, but with the doors it looks to me like it was a buffet instead of a dresser.  And the parts for the drawer and cupboard door are there...so all I have to do is put it back together...no problem.
I love the keyhole detail...and the fact that the key is attached to the knob....how often does that happen?
 I love the feet too...
The top is in good shape except of course for the finish...or lack of finish..and won't take much to remove the rest of it.  I can't wait to get started on it.
They also pulled this frame for me too.  It's dirty and will need to be cleaned with bleach.  I'll probably paint a base coat of Kilz Primer and then Chalk Paint...maybe Louis Blue with some Old White...maybe.
They also pulled this suitcase.  It's a Samsonite suitcase that matches the set that belonged to my grandparents.  I've wanted to do something with their suitcases for a while now, but just haven't been able to bring myself to do it...so maybe I'll start with this one.  What would you do with it?

I'm just the luckiest gal to have family in the sanitation business.  Thanks Vicky and Jerry!  I can't wait to get started on that dresser, but first I have to build a few things.  I'm going to be busy this weekend if the rain would just stay away!  Have you gotten anything for free lately?  Well, thanks for stopping by.

Recent finds...

Hi Everyone!  I am out working in the shop today trying to get ready for the first fall craft fair.  But I need a break and wanted to show you a couple of recent finds.  My mom picked up a couple of frames (thanks Mom!) and I picked up the other three last weekend.
I don't know exactly what I've going to do with the two standing up but I have an idea that the large one will be turned into one of the wire/clip message/picture frames that I make for the fairs that always sell quickly (I need to come up with a better name for them).
The top two of these frames are a matching pair.  I got these three for $2.50.  A little more than what I would normally pay for frames this size but they are solid wood and in great shape...and they match.  I needed two matching ones this size so I was happy to pay the $2.00 to get them both.  I have already used them and I'll show you what I did with them later this week.  But now I need to get back out to the shop.  Thanks for stopping by.

My day off....

Hi Everyone!  I hope your week is going well.  Today was my day off and I didn't get quite as much done as I thought I would.  I did get the mowing completed but I didn't get the trimming done.  There's a lot of trimming to do here on the farm.
I worked on the order I got for the trio of paintings.
I worked on a set of signs for a client.
I picked up some lumber for the bench I'm working on for one of my co-workers.  I did the fun stuff like laundry and cleaning.  And I went to my parents home and mowed the yard for my them.  So I don't have a finished project to share with you.  I have a couple of finds to share instead.
I drove by the building that has an ongoing garage sale.  And this frame caught my eye.  I turned around and picked it up for $3.
It has this little plague on it that says Snow Bound  by Marion Gray Traver.  It's a great size for one of my wire and clip message centers.
When I got home from mowing at my parents home, I got a phone call from my Uncle Bill.  He was letting me know he had been here and dropped off another Jenny Lind crib.
And three rails.  I only got pictures of two of them because I had already put one away when I remembered to get my camera out.  He rescued them from going to the landfill.  So they were free for me.  Have I said recently that I love free stuff?  Well I do!  Thanks Uncle Bill!  Now I need to get working on these orders so that I can get them completed, shipped, and have something to share with you.  Thanks for stopping by.

Frames and a Fan....

Hi Everyone!  Happy Saturday!  I wanted to share with you a few things that I got recently.  I was on the hunt for a few frames and these are what I found.  I'm still looking for one in between the large one and the next to large one, but I haven't found it yet.  But look at that large one.

Someone had painted it pink.  I got it from a local antique dealer and he had already done most of the stripping off of the pink paint.  The corners all need a bit of work, but nothing I can't handle.  I can't wait to get started.

I got all four frames for $30.  Which I was happy with considering the size of the large frame.
And look at this fan.  I've always wanted one of these.  I found it hiding  under a table at this local garage sale place that is so racked and stacked with stuff that it's hard to find anything or even walk through the building.  I got the fan for $15.00 which I was very happy about.
So there are my recent finds.  I am busy out in the shop this weekend working on a couple of benches for a client and for the upcoming craft fair on the 15th.  The weather is perfect for working in the shop.  I hope you are having a great weekend.  Thanks for stopping by.

Message or photo center....

Hi Everyone!  Happy Tuesday!  I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.  I sure did.  I'll share the items I finished this weekend and show you some pictures from the Labor Day Market I went to in the next few days.  But first I wanted to show you one of the things I've been working on.  I found this frame hanging in my garage.  I don't know where it came from or why my grandfather put it in the garage, but I'm sure glad that he did!

I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk paint in Old White.  Then I sanded it and waxed it.
And added nails to the back of the frame and strung black wire in a grid pattern.
And added mini clips to the intersection of the wires.  I found the clips at Hobby Lobby for $2.99.  I've had them in my stash of items for a while now.  I don't know what made me get them, but I'm sure glad that I did.
And here's how it turned out.  It can be used to hold messages or photos.
Or anything else you might want to attach and display.  I have today off work and must get out in the shop so I can get ready for the Red Oak Craft Fair next weekend.  More to come soon!  Thanks for stopping by.
