All you need....

Hi Everyone!  Well, it's snowing out.  It has been since about 10 AM and isn't suppose to stop until about midnight tonight.  Just the snow wouldn't be bad but it's blowing like crazy out there.  And it's starting to pile up in some places...like right outside my back door...the door I use to take the dogs out. At least they like playing in the piles.

In honor of Valentine's Day, I made a little framed artwork....
...in case you didn't know, I love things with birds on it....and I love to paint tree silhouettes...
...I don't decorate for Valentine's Day but I thought I'd make a few things for the studio, just in case.  And this is what I came up with...I like that it can be used all year long.  After all, birds and love are great all year long!  Thanks for stopping by.

Mixed media art work...

Hi Everyone!  I hope you're having a good evening.  I want to show you one of the art pieces I worked on this past weekend.  It's an easy piece that anyone could make and customize to match their decor.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures as I was making it.  But it's definitely not difficult.  I just takes some Modge Podge, paint (you could use a paint pen or marker), scrapbook paper and a piece of sheet music.  If I were to do this again, I'd photocopy the sheet music so it wasn't so thick.
I picked out a board and cut it to size.  I made this 11 1/4 x 14 1/4.  I sanded it and painted both sides cream.  To keep the board from warping, paint both sides.  The more coats you put on one side, you need to put on the other to keep it from warping.  Then I decoupaged the sheet music to the board.  At this point I found a sheet of scrapbook paper that I liked and photocopied it and then cut it out so it randomly fit around the edge of the board.  Then I decoupaged the sheets to it leaving the center open.
Then I painted the flowers in cream and plum which were light gray when I photocopied them.  I then hand-painted the words and the bird on the limb.  You could always use vinyl letters (you can get them at Walmart or Hobby Lobby or cut them out with a Silhouette or other cutting machine) and then attach them.  And of course the bird could be cut out too and applied or a stencil used.
I then added an antique medium which darkened the background a bit but really only shows up in person.  If you look closely you can see the difference.  And then I painted the edge of the board black.  To finish it all off, I added a coat of Modge Podge as a sealer to the whole thing.  It took longer waiting for it all to dry than to actually work on it.  I like how it turned out.  What do you think?  Thanks for stopping by!

Silhouette blocks....

Hi Everyone!  Happy Tuesday!  Today is my day off so I'm busy trying to get projects finished including a set of signs for a client.  I'm hoping to get them finished or mostly finished today.  But I want to show you the blocks I made last night.  I had to wait until this morning to have a photo session with them in natural light and they still had to dry.  So this is what I came up...
I started off with some scrap pieces of wood that I cut into blocks roughly the same size.  I sanded and painted them black.
Then I painted three blocks red, three blocks mustard yellow, three blocks antique white and three blocks a gray-green.

I painted a silhouette in black on each block.  Once it dried, I applied an antique medium.
This set contains a bee, butterfly and dragonfly.
This set has leaves.
 This set has flowers.
And this set birds.
There they are all together.....
....all mixed up....
....a smaller set....
...different colors....
...there are so many options....

It's simple yet brings in some color without being overwhelming.  Now to attach the hangers and get them put on the wall.  Thanks for stopping by.
