Presents from Uncle Bill...

Hi Everyone!  I was at my parents, checking on my dad.  He's had a rough week after surgery.  I think he's finally rounded the corner and is doing better.  And when I got home, I found a present leaning up against the shop.  Look what my Uncle Bill left for me.....
They are dirty and chippy and still have the hardware intact.
I have wanted a few windows with more than four panes...
....and now I have four of them.....
Thanks Uncle Bill for the presents!

I just can't wait for a little cooler weather so I can get back out to the shop and get started working on these and all the other projects I have going.  I need to see about getting some air conditioning out there so I can work when I can instead of when the weather allows.  Because I am a wimp when it comes to heat.  I always have been.  As a little girl I used to pass out when I got too hot or I'd get nose bleeds when I was overheated and they wouldn't stop.  So I'm extra careful in the heat.  I can't wait for next week.  I have Tuesday off and since the 4th of July is Wednesday, I have that off too.  Two day off in a row...that doesn't happen very often for me.  But it's going to be hot.  I've been making my list of projects so I know exactly what I'm going to work on.  But first I figure out the air conditioning situation.  Have a great weekend everyone!  Thanks for stopping by.

We're havin' a heat wave...

...a tropical heat wave...the temperature's rising...it isn't surprising....she certainly can...can-can.....Boy is it hot out!  Hi Everyone!  I have this song going through my head...so I had to share it with you!  I hate hot weather.  At least really hot weather.  There isn't any air movement either which makes it feel even worse.

And do you know what hot weather is good for?......
 ....well on the farm.....
....this is what happens during hot weather...
 ....the grass was mowed Tuesday.....
 ....left to dry on Wednesday....
 ....raked this morning....
....and baled this afternoon....and now is being picked up and loaded as I write this.  And it's hot out.  And they are doing this on a tractor without a cab...no air conditioning...and no air movement....it's so hot out that it takes your breath away.  But it's done...well almost.
Have you been watching the Olympic Swim Trials that are going on in Omaha?  This is located about an hour from me.  Oh how I wish I could have attended.  Back in the day I was a swimmer.  My events were the 100 and 200 Butterfly, the 100, 200 and 500 Freestyle, and both relays.  I loved swimming and I love watching these trials and the Olympic hopefuls.  I can't wait for the Olympics.
Here's a peek at what I was working on Tuesday on my day off.  I didn't get it finished because I had to go to my parents to do my mom's hair and by the time I got back it was just too hot to work out in the shop.  This is the first thing I need to finish when I get out to the shop this weekend since it's for a client.  But I already think I'm going to change the top to something a bit wider.  I'm so glad I didn't attach it.  Be careful if you're in this heat wave.  Drink plenty of fluids and don't over stress yourself.  Thanks for stopping by.

Recent finds...

Hi Everyone!  Happy Saturday!  I wanted to show you a couple of recent freebies that were given to me.  My uncle Bill, okay he's really not my uncle.  He's my mom's cousin, or my grandfather's nephew, but he's always been close to my grandfather and thus seemed more like uncle then cousin.  Anyway, he came across this  headboard at a "junk" shop and bought it for $3.  He thought I could use it to make one of my headboard benches.  I have another headboard that has the same shape, but without the iron insert that would look good married with this one.
These headboards and footboards are actually bunk beds also courtesy of my uncle Bill!  He rescued them from going to the landfill.  My uncle Bill used to run the sanitation company which he bought from his father Ivan.  Then when Uncle Bill was ready to retire he sold the business to his son Jerry.  So I guess you could say I come from a long line of "junkers".  Cousin Jerry and Uncle Bill are always on the look out for things they think I might be able to use.  So I guess I have an "in" in the junk world around here.  Thanks for the headboards Uncle Bill!
They need cleaned up and one of the top boards is cracked but can easily be repaired.  So I have a lot of work to do.  Unfortunately it's hot here.  The heat index on Friday was 105 degrees and it's to be that hot all weekend.  And unfortunately I don't have air conditioning out in the shop.  So, unless I can take it into the house to work on, not much is going to get done.  Last year when it was so hot out I actually did build three benches in my living room.  I'd take a list of measurements out to the shop, cut all that I could and then carry them back into the house and put it all together on my living room floor.  Then move the finished pieces back out to the shop for sanding and painting.  I'm not really wanting to do that this year, but I have two back to back craft fairs coming up so I just might have to turn my living room into a building zone.  Well, have a great weekend!  Be careful for the heat!  Thanks for stopping by.
