Hi Everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend. The weather has been great the last few days...thank goodness. So I've been able to be out in the shop working. I have almost a month to go before my first craft fair so I've been busy trying to get ready for it. I've also had several custom orders which I'll show you later this week. Tonight I thought I'd show you what I did to one of the windows that my Uncle Bill rescued from a dumpster for me which you can see here.
Here are two of the four windows that Uncle Bill gave me. I took the one on the left and spent about and hour and a half cleaning it up on both sides. It was dirty and grimy and gross. But I got it clean.
I taped the edge off with frog tape. And then sprayed the back with Krylon's Looking Glass Mirror-Like Paint. I just love this stuff but it's expensive for a 6oz can.
Once it dried, I painted over it with black flat spray paint to protect the mirror finish.
I applied some dark wax to the front of the window/mirror to give it an aged look.
I thought the window/mirror needed something so I made this wreath to hang on it out of a pip berry garland that I had on hand. It has barn red hearts and rusty keys attached to the garland. The tag says love is the key. I thought it was the right size for the window/mirror.
And here it is hanging on the front of the window now turned into a mirror. I need to hang it on the wall in my studio but I didn't want to wait to show it to you. I like how it turned out. What would you have done with this window? I have three more of them.....
The weather tomorrow is suppose to be good and I have a long list of things to accomplish out in the shop. Thanks for stopping by.

Your window/mirror looks great Holly! I have several windows that I've been trying to figure out what to do with them. :) So I guess I don't have any other suggestions for you at this time.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty here yesterday and today. A little warmer tomorrow...
I got some stuff done outside today.
Enjoy your Sunday!

Love this idea! I have a window sitting in my basement and I already have the mirror spray paint that I purchased awhile back while I had a 40% off coupon. Love the way it turned out. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot! I have a 15-pane window in my kitchen that may need the same treatment ;-) Sometimes I get bored of just seeing the wall color behind it.
ReplyDeleteI so love this.. I sure wish we didn't live so far away from each other I'd be your best customer.... lol But with the size of the things you make that I want... I can't afford the shipping. Makes me nuts!!! I LOVE everything you do ... just awesome!!!!

I have never heard of the mirror paint before! I have two old windows in my garage and I just may have to do that to at least one of them. :) Great job!

ReplyDeleteWow! I LOVE this! Looks great. By the way, would you like to share your Uncle Bill? Sounds like a great guy to have in the family.
ReplyDeleteI love how your window turned out especially with the wreath hanging on it! I've got a window waiting to be fixed up so I've been looking around for ideas. I'm stopping by from Made in a Day's link party.

I've got an old window that's been sitting in my garage waiting for me to do this for almost 2 years! After seeing how pretty yours looks, I think I'll dig it out tomorrow and get busy.
ReplyDeleteGreat work!
I guess we have that mirror spray paint over here, but I've never seen it. What a fantastic makeover, I need to look for some !
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful mirror. I love it. Thanks for the great tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I actually have an old window and had no idea what to do with it. Thanks for posting this on the Made U Look link party.

ReplyDeleteHolly-Your window/mirror looks great! I didn't know there was such a thing as spray on mirror. Glad you posted this to the MW blogger fb page! Enjoy these cooler days!

Oh WOW! What a GREAT idea!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea!!! You asked for a suggestion as to what to do with the other windows. If you have a photo, you can enlarge it, place it on the back side with the photo being exposed through the window. Or take several pictures and place them in each pane. Have Labor Day Weekend!

I had a great weekend. I rewatched some old films at home. Those were good steps on recycling an old window frame. And right on time, too! Now that Christmas is approaching, people are finding ways to get cheaper decorations at home. They can make use of this, you know. Or maybe, come up with a different idea out of this.
