Drawer coffee table....

Hi Everyone!  Today is day two of the fair, it's been good so far and I'll share more about it tomorrow, but today I thought I'd show you one of the "new" items I made.  Earlier this year I was lucky enough to receive these antique drawers (you can read about them here).  I made a coffee table on wheels with one of the large drawers and it's one of my most favorite builds which you can read about here.
I took the middle size drawer and created this coffee table or side table.
I'm really happy with the way this turned out.
I built a base with 2x4"s and then added large bun feet and casters...
I added a split top to it...
...with a piano hinge.  I painted the interior Wildflower blue...
...and the outside with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.  Then I sanded it, waxed and buffed it.

I took it with me to the fair and have received a lot of compliments on it but it hasn't sold yet.....maybe today.  If it doesn't sell, I'm okay with it because I will be taking it to the fair next month.  Well, now I have to get ready to hit the road for day two of the fair.  I hope your weekend is going well.  Thanks for stopping by!

Projects in process...

Hi Everyone!  I have been busy for the last month getting ready for the fair next weekend.  I still have to finish up a bunch of items but here's a little preview of some of the things I've been working on.
I built a twin bench and made a dresser bench (the white piece with the drawer) that I need to upholster and attach the seat like I did here.  I built a headboard shelf with pegs and painted the frame of a window minus the glass that I added chicken wire to, to make a message center.
I turned an antique drawer into a shelf like I did here but this time I painted the interior apple green.  And the big drawer behind it has been turned into a drawer coffee table like I made here.
I still have to finish the top of the coffee table.
I turned the middle size drawer into a smaller coffee table or side table, more on this one later.
And another headboard shelf with pegs.  I have about 10 other projects that I've been working on but those will have to wait.  I have a lot of work to do this weekend, thank goodness the weather is going to be cooler so I can be out in the shop but we do have thunderstorms in the forecast so that might making painting a little more difficult.  What are your plans for the weekend?  Thanks for stopping by.

Antique drawer repurposed...

Hi Everyone!  I have a collection of antique drawers that I got at work, you can check out the story behind the drawers here.  I have three different sizes and today I thought I'd do something with one of the small ones.
I found the one in the group that I didn't have to do that much to...
...and I decided to turn it into a shelf.  I added two dividers in the drawer so that it could be hung either horizontally or vertically.
I like that you can still see the hardware.
I love the old bead board.  I spent about an hour cleaning it up.  There were years and years of plumbing dirt and grease in that drawer.  And then I spent a while sanding it smooth.
I stained the two divider boards before I glued and nailed them in.  Then I painted the whole thing in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White before distressing the whole thing.  The only thing left to do was add hangers to the back and put it on the wall.
I like it.  I have 7 other drawers this size and plans for several of them.  What would you do with them?  Now I'm heading out to the shop to work on a desk I'm building for a friend.  What are your plans for today?  Whatever you do, enjoy it!  Thanks for stopping by.

A few (one) of my favorite things....

Hi Everyone!  Well, tomorrow is the big day I (and my parents) have been working toward for the last several months...and I can't wait for the Open House for my Studio.  But first, I thought I'd share with you my very favorite thing I've made so far.
I apologize for the pictures...I just couldn't wait to share it with you and the lighting wasn't great.  I'll take some better pictures of it at the Open House.  In case you can't tell, it's a coffee table made out of a very large drawer.
I got these drawers free at work a couple of weeks ago (you can read about it here) and knew the minute I saw them what I was going to do with at least one of them.
I started out by cleaning them up...years of use in a plumbing shop made them very dirty.  Then I reinforced the bottom of the drawer.  I attached five inch wheels to the base (the wheels are hard to see in the picture).  Then I framed out the top of the drawer to give it a nice finished look.
Since I was making the top so it would open from both sides, I decided the inside needed a pop of color, so I spray painted it Lagoon.  I think it's a nice surprise when you open the top.
I painted the outside and top in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.  And attached the top using piano hinges.
I then did some light distressing of the entire outside and waxed it with both clear and dark wax.
And I'm loving how it turned out.  Just like I had envisioned it when I saw the drawer.  If I still had a living room, I would so be keeping this for myself, but since I don't....it will be for sale at my open house this weekend.  In my minds eye, I can see this going to a home with a family ...and years of games being played on the top and games or blankets stored inside....can't you see it too?

Well, I'm almost ready for the open house...just a bit of cleaning and straightening left to do tonight and then tomorrow the final set-up of items.  If the weather is good, some things will be outside on the patio..the rest has already been staged inside the studio.  I have several helpers coming...and I hope the people come too.  I promise to take pictures of the studio and outside once things are set up so I can share the day with all of you.  Thanks for stopping by.

Free stuff....

Hi Everyone!  I'm still trying to recover from this weekend. Tonight I thought I'd share with you the great new free items I got last week from work.  I work at a plumbing shop and in the backroom there's one of those to die for cabinets with lots of drawers and cubbies on top that we all drool over.  Well, two weeks ago the guys decided the drawers just weren't working for them anymore and they destroyed it.  I wish I had been able to take a before picture.  It was fabulous.  I ask the guy destroying altering it what the plan was for the drawers.  And the answer was to break them up and put them in the dumpster.  So I asked my bosses if I could buy the drawers and to my surprise, I was told that I could have them.
There are 6 of these drawers and 8 others that haven't been emptied yet, but I'll get to have those too.
These large drawers are almost 36" x 30".  The wood is solid, thick and heavy.
The middle size drawer is 24" x 30" and the small ones are 14" x 30".
The bottom of each drawer is old bead board and in really great shape.

They all still have their handles and label markers.  I have ideas for some of them and can't wait to show you, but I'd be interested in hearing what you'd do with them.  Now I must get to work on some custom orders.  Thanks for stopping by.
