Wanna Dance?...

Hi Everyone!  I hope your day is going well.  It's a nice day here, a bit windy so I don't think I'll be mowing unless the wind dies down.

I want to show you what I finished last night.  Well, it's almost finished.  I was going to make some nice chunky frames and paint them white, but I have sad news.  My compound miter saw is not working right.  It needs new brushes (I think).  So no miter cuts can be made right now to make the frames.  I have ordered the parts but they won't be here for at least a week.  So my projects will be somewhat limited.

I started out with these squares of luan.  I had a cut a sheet of luan down a few weeks ago into 12" x 12" squares.  I sanded them and then primed them with white.  Then I mixed up some light pink paint and painted them.  Then I sketched on the dancers and painted them black.

Won't they look a 100% better with those white chunky frames I had planned on making for them?  I like how they turned out despite the lack of frames.  And I think some little girl will like them too....once they have their frames.  Thanks for stopping by.

Hand painted Field Tile Coasters...

Hi Everyone!  I hope your weekend is going well.  I was going through my stash of items and came across some leftover field tile from a project I did about six years ago.  So I decided to make some hand painted coasters.  They are the easiest project!
There are nine 4x4 tumbled field tiles in this package.
I cleaned them off and hand painted numbers on four of them.....
...and love bird silhouettes on four others.  I didn't do anything with the 9th tile.
Once the paint dried I sprayed them with three light coats of spar urethane.
I have a roll of cork leftover from some projects I did about 3 years ago, so I cut smaller squares out of it to go on the back side of the field tile.  I used Gorilla Glue to attach the cork to the tile.
This type of Gorilla Glue requires you to dampen one side.  So I wet down a paper towel and rubbed the back of the tile with it.  Then applied the glue to the cork.  Once I had the cork placed where I wanted it, I set it on a board and weighted it down leaving it to dry for about an hour.
And that's all it takes.  Easy as can be!
Here's how they all look together.
Here they are showing two with the cork attached.
I really like the way they turned out.  I love numbers but I think I like the love birds best.  Which do you like better?  Thanks for stopping by!

A horse is a horse...

...of course, of course...  Hi Everyone!  Happy Monday.  Do you remember the movie Secretariat?  I love that movie and was watching it this weekend while watching the snow fall.  When it got me to thinking...
As a little girl, I loved horses, still do.  I would love to have horses on the farm, but they cost a bunch to keep.  When I first realized I had some talent in the area of art, I use to draw horses all of the time!  In fact, they were my go to animal to draw.  But I don't think I've drawn one since junior high.  That is until now.
As I was watching the movie, I got to thinking about making a horse sign.  And of course I couldn't just make any horse sign, I decided to make one for a race horse from The Meadow.
Which is the name of the Stable and is located in Doswell, VA where Secretariat was born.
I liked how it looked when I finished painting it, but decided since he won the Triple Crown in 1973, the sign definitely needed to be aged and not just the background.  I didn't just want to add antiquing to the sign, so I decided to actually sand the horse and lettering.
I sanded it pretty lightly and I'm still contemplating on whether to add the antique medium to it or not.  I do like how it turned out.  Although it is a little on the large size.  It was painted on the backing from a frame I had turned into a chalkboard that didn't sell as a chalkboard.  I used the frame for the message center this past fall and hadn't done anything with the backing.
I had to pull this guy off my shelf in the dining room.  He is a cast iron horse that my great Uncle Cecil gave me a few months before he died.  And this horse is old.  But he was my model for the drawing I did.  Isn't he cute?

I think I need to cut the sides down some, but since it was snowing and blowing, I didn't want to hike out to the shop just to cut this board down. Would you add the antique medium to it?  Or leave it the way it is?  Or maybe sand the picture a little more?  I hope you have a great week.  Thanks for stopping by.

Name signs...

Hi Everyone!  I hope you're having a great Sunday and getting ready to watch the Super Bowl or not.  I like football but I'm so not interested in the Super Bowl.  Although I would be interested in watching the half-time show and the commercials, so I just might be flipping the channels back and forth.

I wanted to share with you one of the signs I was working on yesterday during the snow storm.  I couldn't work out in the shop and I only had a few boards in the house that were ready to be turned into signs.  So other than cleaning (which I did do some of) and laundry, I worked on a few signs and started reading that book.
This is what I call name signs.  I have been making these for years on my computer and then matting and framing them.  In fact, I began making them as Christmas presents and then started getting orders for them.  I made them with different sayings across them and with an Est. date at the bottom for weddings and anniversary gifts or birth dates and birth facts to mark the birth of a baby.  I've made them that say Mom or Dad and then a saying that is appropriate for Mother's or Father's Day.  I've made them with inspirational sayings that mark milestones.  You name it, I've made it.  But I hadn't hand painted any, until now.
The red is really a pretty red.  But it's not showing up that way.

And the saying across it says: This home is filled with love, laughter and dreams.
I painted the base coat black and the top coat white and then sanded it lightly.  I didn't want a lot of black or gray showing through.  There was enough going on.

I'm really happy with the way it turned out.  In fact, I think I might be having a giveaway of one of these signs in the near future.  I do have a blogiverary coming up soon.  Thanks for stopping by.

Winter Wonderland Window Art....

Hi Everyone!  Happy Sunday!  I hope you are all doing well and gearing up for the upcoming holiday season.  It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is this week!  Where as the time gone?  I wanted to share with you one of the things I made and sold last Saturday at the Craft Fair.  I painted another window.  If you've been following along, you might remember that I picked up a bunch of windows for FREE that were curb side when they replaced the windows in a beautiful Victorian home by my parents home.
I painted this one on both the front and back of the window.  The face (the eyes, noses and mouths) were painted on the front side and everything else was painted on the back side of the window.  The hardest part was painting the letters on the back since they were backward, but I think it turned out pretty well.  It sold right away at the Red Cross Craft Fair.  I wouldn't have minded taking it home with me, so maybe I'll have to make one for myself.  Hope your weekend is great!  Thanks for stopping by!

Bench update....

Hi Everyone!  Happy Sunday!  I hope you are having a great weekend.  I am still trying to get caught up on things and get started on the bulk of items I'm taking to the Red Cross Craft Fair on November 12th.  It is my last fair of the season.  It's been a good season so far.  Do you remember this bench?  I took it to the fair in Red Oak, but it didn't sell.  And I said I would repaint it if it didn't sell at the Clarinda Craft Carnival....
Well, here it is at the Clarinda craft fair and guess what.....it sold!  In fact it was the very first bench to sell that day.  A really sweet gal bought it without even batting an eye.  She saw it and loved it and by 9:00 am it had sold.  It sat in my booth until they came back to pick it up somewhere around noon and I could have sold it four more times.  I knew if I were to find the right buyer for it, it would be at that craft fair.  I'm so happy that someone else loved my vision for that bench and I hope she enjoys it as much as I have.  So now I have to get busy making more benches for the next fair and I only have two more weekends after this one to get it all done.  It's a good problem to have!  Well, thanks for stopping by!

Ironing board as art?......

Hi Everyone!  Happy Tuesday!  I wanted to share with you one of the things I've been working on.  Do you remember this antique ironing board that my aunt Barb gave me?  Well, I turned it into a piece of art which Gail @ myrepurposedlife inspired me to do after she put the mannequin on an ironing board.
I got the idea to put a wedding dress on this ironing board and an advertisement for a Dressmaker in London on it.
So I drew my idea of a wedding dress onto the ironing board and then painted it with ASPC Old White and then I outlined it in black.
I handpainted the Dressmaker on the top of the ironing board.
And the details of the Dressmaker and address in London on the bottom.
I know it's hard to tell in this picture but I put clear and dark wax on the entire board to age it, but I just couldn't sand it.  So I'm leaving it as is.  I'm going to see if I can get some better pictures of it, but I just couldn't wait to post it.

Here's a little bit better picture of the coloring of the dress.  Thanks for stopping by.
