Mixed media art work...

Hi Everyone!  I hope you're having a good evening.  I want to show you one of the art pieces I worked on this past weekend.  It's an easy piece that anyone could make and customize to match their decor.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures as I was making it.  But it's definitely not difficult.  I just takes some Modge Podge, paint (you could use a paint pen or marker), scrapbook paper and a piece of sheet music.  If I were to do this again, I'd photocopy the sheet music so it wasn't so thick.
I picked out a board and cut it to size.  I made this 11 1/4 x 14 1/4.  I sanded it and painted both sides cream.  To keep the board from warping, paint both sides.  The more coats you put on one side, you need to put on the other to keep it from warping.  Then I decoupaged the sheet music to the board.  At this point I found a sheet of scrapbook paper that I liked and photocopied it and then cut it out so it randomly fit around the edge of the board.  Then I decoupaged the sheets to it leaving the center open.
Then I painted the flowers in cream and plum which were light gray when I photocopied them.  I then hand-painted the words and the bird on the limb.  You could always use vinyl letters (you can get them at Walmart or Hobby Lobby or cut them out with a Silhouette or other cutting machine) and then attach them.  And of course the bird could be cut out too and applied or a stencil used.
I then added an antique medium which darkened the background a bit but really only shows up in person.  If you look closely you can see the difference.  And then I painted the edge of the board black.  To finish it all off, I added a coat of Modge Podge as a sealer to the whole thing.  It took longer waiting for it all to dry than to actually work on it.  I like how it turned out.  What do you think?  Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I love it. I also love the sentiment, I sing because I am happy and that it is over sheets of music. Really beautiful.
