A trio of dandelions....

Hi Everyone!  I hope you are all having a wonderful week.  It's been warm and windy here.  I haven't gotten much accomplished the last couple of days but I did finish my trio of dandelion paintings that I shared with you here.  Thanks so much for all the advice and encouragement.  Well....I think I finished it.  Or at least as finished as I'm going to get for now.

This is what they looked like before...
Pretty flat and dull....
I put a darker blue wash on it....
 I sanded them...
...and then I put an antique medium over them....
 ...and these are the results...
...this one looks better in person than in this picture...maybe a tad too much light here....
I like them so much better now.  They don't look that flat anymore and the color reminds me of old denim jeans...always comfortable.  I only have one problem with them now...since I changed the color of blue, they don't go with my bedroom very well.  The blues are completely different now and I don't like them where I wanted to put them.  So, that means I need to find another place for them and make something else to go in my bedroom.  Maybe something with a red background.... Thanks for stopping by!

Dandelion advice....

Hi Everyone!  I need a little advice.  I made this set of dandelion paintings on wooden canvases for my bedroom.  But something isn't exactly right.  Can you see it?  Do they look a little flat to you?  Any thoughts?
One train of thought is to sand them and make them look old.
Or do I add a darker blue wash to them?
 Or should I antique them?
Or should I add a different color wash to them?
Right now the background is painted sky blue with a tan wash, if you look closely you can see that.
I've been living with them for about a week and I just can't decide what they need.  Would love to hear your thoughts on them.  Thanks for stopping by.

Custom bench and trio of paintings...

Hi Everyone!  Happy Thursday!  I had a really good couple of days.  Tuesday I finished the bench for my co-worker Shane.  I finished the trio of paintings for my client and sent her the pics of them and she loved them.  I finished the two custom signs for my friend and client that runs a daycare, I'm just waiting for the sealer to cure so I can send them to her.  I sold a sign in my Etsy shop today so I had to make two trips to the post office, YEAH!  And I got to talk with a dear friend of mine  last night on the phone.  He called to check on my dad!  So it was a good couple of days.
This is what Shane's bench ended up looking like.  He gave me specific instructions as to the size and style and then left the rest to me.
I took this before I finished sanding, as you can see the light spots where I filled the nail holes.  I used wooden buttons to cover the screws which I think gives it a nice finished look.
It will look better once it's been stained.  But Shane is going to have that pleasure.  If it were me, I would paint it and put a cushion on the seat, but that's just me.  He has two young kids so a cushion probably isn't practical.
Shane hasn't seen it yet.  I told him yesterday at work that it was finished, but it was just too windy to haul it to town, especially with the threat of storms.  So maybe he can get it tonight but definitely this weekend.  I need the room in the shop.  I have an order for another headboard bench to get started on.
And here are a few pictures of the trio of paintings I did for a client.  She saw the post of the craft fair wrap up (where they looked yellowish) and emailed me about those paintings.  My dad sold them at the fair and she asked me to make another set.  And here they are.
I almost like them better than the original set.
I think they would look good with a background of barn red.....
...maybe I'll make that set for myself.
And last night I started working on another painting....hopefully I'll be able to share that with you tomorrow...hopefully.  Thanks for stopping by.

Trio of paintings.....

Hi Everyone!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  I had a good weekend.  I worked on Saturday morning.  The weather was good.  I was able to get a lot accomplished.  I wanted to share with you one of the projects I started last week and finally finished this weekend.  I decided to make a set of three canvases out of wood.  I used a part of scrap luan and furring strips that were left over from another project to make my canvas.

I glued and nailed these together.
I sanded it and filled a few edges with wood filler.
It has a very nice grain and I thought about not painting it, but I just love this leaf green color that I had to use it.
I painted the base coat white and then a very pretty leaf green.
Then I dry brushed a coat of light green, a coat of antique white, then a bit of white.
Once the paint dried, I sketched a butterfly, a dandelion puff and a dragon fly, one on each canvas.  Then painted them white.
This is after about 3 coats of white.  I ended up putting on 5 coats of white paint to get the effect I wanted.
I wanted them to be all white, but that meant several coats on the outlining and a light coat of paint on the filled in areas.
I really like the way the dandelion puff turned out.  With a few seeds blowing in the wind.
The dragonfly is simple but goes well with the butterfly and dandelion.
Once I was happy with the white, I put on a coat of antique medium.  I always like the way it looks once it's antiqued.  I was going to sand it and I still might, but I always hate to sand paintings.  All that work just to be sanded away.
I'm going to enjoy looking at these for a while and then decide whether to sand them.
But my big question is....
....do I need to add some black or gray to give them a bit more definition.  What do you think?
Do I sand them?  Do I add some more definition?  What would you do?  Or do you like them the way they are?  I'd really be interested in what you think.  I hope you have a great week.  Thanks for stopping by.
