Dancing in the rain....

Hi Everyone.  I hope you had a good Independence Day.  Since it was in the middle of the week I was able to have two days off in a row....and I took full advantage of it.  But it has my week all thrown off base.  I already had a Monday, but it feels like I get another "Monday" after having two days off.  Plus it's a short week.  I was able to work on a lot of projects these past two days.  But I only finished three of them and I have a lot more to do.

This is one of my favorite sayings.  I have made several different kinds of signs over the years using this saying.  I've even painted it on a wooden plate.  But this is the first time I have turned it into a painting.
 Isn't it fun?
I like the way the umbrella turned out....
 ...and the galoshes....
I showed it to my parents and they both really liked.  Just something a bit different.  I painted it on a canvas board and then framed it in a wooden frame that I painted black and distressed.  In person the blue background really does look watery.  It's simple with a touch of whimsey.  I'm happy with it.  What do you think?  Thanks for stopping by.

Random things....

Hi Everyone!  I hope this finds you doing well.  I don't have anything finished to share with you.  So I thought I'd give you a peek at a couple of projects I'm working on.
This is a sketch I'm working on and have started darkening the lines before I paint it.  Can you guess what it is?
And here's another project I'm working on....any ideas what it's going to be?
And this crazy man is my dad.  The big day is finally here.  Tomorrow my dad is having his AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm)  repair surgery.  He has to report to the hospital tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM.  His surgery is to start at 7:30AM.  So it will be a very early morning.  My parents are already there.  They went up this afternoon so they wouldn't have to get up so early and then make the drive.  I will get there in the morning before the surgery.  And I pray that everything goes well and they are able to repair the aneurysm.  And now I must get to bed as it will be time to leave before I know it.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Family Tree....

Hi Everyone!  Happy Friday!  The long weekend is upon us...although I still have to work today and tomorrow like normal but then I have Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off.  So I still get to have a three day weekend, just not the same days as everyone else!

I want to show you the painting I started Wednesday night and then finished last night.  It's just a simple thing, but I really like it.
I started out with this.  It's a three pack canvas panel that is 11x14".
This is what I made.  First I prepared the canvas.  Then I painted the canvas a very light blue.  It was a color I mixed, mainly white with a little blue mixed in.  When it dried I put an antique medium over it.  Once that dried, I sketched on the tree.  Then painted it with black semi-gloss paint.  I did that so when you look at it from different directions is sort of shines.
I added this saying to the bottom with the same black paint.  I really love this saying.  If you remember, I used it on the wooden base of the wire family tree I made.  You can check it out here.
I thought I was finished so I looked in my stash of frames and found this one.  It was wooden so I painted it black and then distressed the edge.  I removed the glass and framed the canvas panel.
But I didn't think it looked finished once I framed it.  I thought it needed something.
So I added a couple of love birds to a branch and added a few more branches to the tree.  I first painted the birds in a brighter blue, but decided that the birds needed to be red.  Now I just can't decide if they need to be antiqued.  What do you think?
I'm really liking the way it turned out.  It's simple.  I love that quote.  I think I just might make one for my parents.  I still have two more canvas panels and I know I have another frame like this one.  I think I will be listing this one in my Etsy store.  Thanks for stopping by!

Custom bench and trio of paintings...

Hi Everyone!  Happy Thursday!  I had a really good couple of days.  Tuesday I finished the bench for my co-worker Shane.  I finished the trio of paintings for my client and sent her the pics of them and she loved them.  I finished the two custom signs for my friend and client that runs a daycare, I'm just waiting for the sealer to cure so I can send them to her.  I sold a sign in my Etsy shop today so I had to make two trips to the post office, YEAH!  And I got to talk with a dear friend of mine  last night on the phone.  He called to check on my dad!  So it was a good couple of days.
This is what Shane's bench ended up looking like.  He gave me specific instructions as to the size and style and then left the rest to me.
I took this before I finished sanding, as you can see the light spots where I filled the nail holes.  I used wooden buttons to cover the screws which I think gives it a nice finished look.
It will look better once it's been stained.  But Shane is going to have that pleasure.  If it were me, I would paint it and put a cushion on the seat, but that's just me.  He has two young kids so a cushion probably isn't practical.
Shane hasn't seen it yet.  I told him yesterday at work that it was finished, but it was just too windy to haul it to town, especially with the threat of storms.  So maybe he can get it tonight but definitely this weekend.  I need the room in the shop.  I have an order for another headboard bench to get started on.
And here are a few pictures of the trio of paintings I did for a client.  She saw the post of the craft fair wrap up (where they looked yellowish) and emailed me about those paintings.  My dad sold them at the fair and she asked me to make another set.  And here they are.
I almost like them better than the original set.
I think they would look good with a background of barn red.....
...maybe I'll make that set for myself.
And last night I started working on another painting....hopefully I'll be able to share that with you tomorrow...hopefully.  Thanks for stopping by.

My day off....

Hi Everyone!  I hope your week is going well.  Today was my day off and I didn't get quite as much done as I thought I would.  I did get the mowing completed but I didn't get the trimming done.  There's a lot of trimming to do here on the farm.
I worked on the order I got for the trio of paintings.
I worked on a set of signs for a client.
I picked up some lumber for the bench I'm working on for one of my co-workers.  I did the fun stuff like laundry and cleaning.  And I went to my parents home and mowed the yard for my them.  So I don't have a finished project to share with you.  I have a couple of finds to share instead.
I drove by the building that has an ongoing garage sale.  And this frame caught my eye.  I turned around and picked it up for $3.
It has this little plague on it that says Snow Bound  by Marion Gray Traver.  It's a great size for one of my wire and clip message centers.
When I got home from mowing at my parents home, I got a phone call from my Uncle Bill.  He was letting me know he had been here and dropped off another Jenny Lind crib.
And three rails.  I only got pictures of two of them because I had already put one away when I remembered to get my camera out.  He rescued them from going to the landfill.  So they were free for me.  Have I said recently that I love free stuff?  Well I do!  Thanks Uncle Bill!  Now I need to get working on these orders so that I can get them completed, shipped, and have something to share with you.  Thanks for stopping by.

Craft fair pictures...

Hi Everyone!  I hope you are having a good week.  Dad is recovering nicely and has his follow up appointment today.  Hopefully that goes well and in four weeks or so he'll be able to have the AAA repair.  I worked out in the shop a bit yesterday.  I have orders to fill which is wonderful.  I have to get caught up after the craft fair and Dad's appointments and surgery.  I thought I'd show you a few of the pictures from the fair and then follow up over the next few days with some of the things I made for it that I haven't shared with you before.
I left for a while on Saturday to take my dogs out and my dad sold my trio of paintings.  He made a deal and grouped them all together.  I hope they found a happy home.  I'm actually kind of sad that they sold.  I guess I'll have to make another set for myself.
This big bench sold on Saturday.  I was really sad to see this one go.  I loved this bench and if I had a place to put it, I don't think I could have sold it.
Surprisingly, I only sold one sign over the two day fair which is really unusual.  I normally sell out of signs rather quickly.  The only bright spot to that is I don't have to remake a bunch of signs.
This little fence and birdhouse also didn't sell.  One lady was really interested in it but I came home with it.
I'll post about the little cupboard in a day or two.

I have some new signs to share with you too.
I brought home the wooden flag.  I'm not sad about that either.
This was a very popular bench and I got a lot of great comments about it.  It sold first thing Sunday morning.  I loved the fabric on it.
My storage box/coffee table didn't sell either but I love this fabric too.  I have an order for another one with a different cushion on it so I will be swapping out the top for the new one so I don't have to build another base yet.
I sold a couple of those cheese cloches with birds nest and eggs.
One of my best selling items were the soap/lotion dispensers.  This is what I did with a lot of those jars I was given by my mom's friend.
I also sold several of these jar lamps.  And the love bird coasters.
I was actually kind of surprised that I only sold one of the numbers and none of the wooden boxes or trays.
I sold some other items that didn't get set out until later in the day on Saturday or on Sunday and I didn't get pictures of them in the booth.  It was a good fair.  I had quite a few sales and I got some really great leads on things for the future.  I also got a few orders and hopefully a few more will come out of it too.  I met some really wonderful people and can't wait to do it all again here in September at the Apple Jack's Fair.  The couple that run this craft fair also own the craft shop in the mall and after we had brought in a few of my items, they stopped me and told me they wanted my things in their shop.  So that was great to hear.  We'll see if I can afford the booth space.  Now I really have to get working on those orders and start replenishing my inventory.  I will also try to get caught up on all of my favorite blogs that I've missed the last few weeks.  Thanks for stopping by.

Wanna Dance?...

Hi Everyone!  I hope your day is going well.  It's a nice day here, a bit windy so I don't think I'll be mowing unless the wind dies down.

I want to show you what I finished last night.  Well, it's almost finished.  I was going to make some nice chunky frames and paint them white, but I have sad news.  My compound miter saw is not working right.  It needs new brushes (I think).  So no miter cuts can be made right now to make the frames.  I have ordered the parts but they won't be here for at least a week.  So my projects will be somewhat limited.

I started out with these squares of luan.  I had a cut a sheet of luan down a few weeks ago into 12" x 12" squares.  I sanded them and then primed them with white.  Then I mixed up some light pink paint and painted them.  Then I sketched on the dancers and painted them black.

Won't they look a 100% better with those white chunky frames I had planned on making for them?  I like how they turned out despite the lack of frames.  And I think some little girl will like them too....once they have their frames.  Thanks for stopping by.
