Unique flowers...

Hi Everyone!  Happy Wednesday!  I hope your week is going well.  I want to show you the idea I had on Saturday while I was at work.  In case you didn't know, I am the bookkeeper at the local plumbing shop.  I was helping a customer find some brass fittings in the back room when I looked in a box that contained used/vintage handles.  There was such a colorful array of handles.  And it struck me that they looked like flowers.

So I pulled out a few of them and bought them.  I got a great employee discount on them.  I got all seven for a few bucks.  So I cleaned them up and got to working on how to make them into actual flowers.
I love the colors and the fact that they are banged up and scratched.
It was really easy to make.  And I had everything on hand.  Sorry I don't have step by step pictures.  I got started working on them and forgot to pick up the camera.
I took a small (diameter) wooden dowel and used a black pony bead to either fit up inside the handle or one on the top and one on the bottom and sandwiched the handle in the place.  I did have to shave the dowel down a bit to fit inside the bead.  Then I glued them in place using super glue.
Then a found these leaf shaped wooden cutouts in my stash, drilled a hole in them and fed a small wire through two or three of the wooden cutouts and twisted the wire around the dowel from the top to the bottom of the dowel.
And then I mixed up some green paint and painted the stem, leaves and the wire.
And there you go.  Easy as can be.
And these flowers won't wilt or die.
And I love how industrial they look.
Plus, not everyone will have them.  I'm going to put them on a shelf in my living room so I can enjoy them every day.  I hope you are having a good week.  Big things are going to be happening around here this weekend.  Be sure to check back.  Thanks for stopping by.

  7. I love the way you twisted the wire around - it makes the dowels look like screws. So industrial chic! Thanks for linking up.
